This debut disc by Matt Tiegler will remind the ear of the melodic gifts of XTC, Bowie and Elvis Costello, coupled with lyrics that instantly set themselves apart from the standard romantic and unfocused angst fare. The sound palette is neither orchpop nor worldbeat, but draws on both those genres.

While the core of every track is Tiegler’s singing and acoustic guitar with the standard bass and drums, the expansive, evocative sound comes from the arrangements which incorporate china cymbals, sarod, organ, trumpet, didgeridoo, tabla, thumb piano basso, and even electric guitar.

Produced by Ralph Covert (best known as former leader of the Bad Examples), the musicians joining him include multi-percussionists Andy Jones and Doug Brush (Rose Polenzani), world music master Willy Schwarz (Tom Waits, Chicago Immigrant Orchestra), jazz trumpeter Brad Goode, classical guitarist Frank Nava, lead guitarist Steve Gerlach (Mystery Driver, Tommy Keene), bassist Tom Piekarski (John Prine’s famous potatoes, Bad Examples), Pianist Michael Broening (Rippingtons, Khani Cole Band) and drummers Zack Kantor (Frisbie, Lotus Crown) and Henry Jansen (Great Apes, Los Burrachoes)
